Electrical records on every machine
Most cleaning kit plugs in and gets moved a lot. The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require electrical systems to be maintained, as may be necessary to prevent danger, so far as is reasonably practicable (regulation 4(2)). HSE gives a floor cleaner as an example of equipment where testing, along with visual checks, can be an important part of maintenance, and strongly recommends that tool hire businesses formally inspect and test equipment before each hire. A machine that comes back dirty or damaged has to be dealt with before it goes out again. Capture condition photos at handover and return, log any damage claim on the hire, and send return reminders by SMS or WhatsApp so the weekend machine is back for Monday. Extend or exchange a hire with the customer’s price locked when the job takes longer.
